There are many significant scenes in this movie, but the one that I found extremely important to the story started at the 1:00:00 and ended at the 1:02:30 mark. Yes, it is only a 2 minute and 30 second scene, but Pixar cramped lots of information into that short amount of time. Also, this scene has two sides to it, Mr.Incredible’s viewpoint from Syndromes secret “headquarters” and from Helen’s viewpoint at Edna’s house.
In the first part of this scene, Mr. Incredible breaks/sneaks into Syndrome’s secret “headquarters” I guess I would call it. In this headquarters Syndrome has a computer that holds the information of what is ultimate goal is. Mr. Incredible guesses the password into this computer (which was Kronos, having significance in Syndrome’s plan) on the first try.
Then what he finds is a real eye opener for him. He is shocked to find that Syndrome is killing off all of the Supers from the “old days.” He realizes that Syndrome has killed some of his close friends and Mr. Incredible never knew because all the Supers were in hiding after many lawsuits. Mr. Incredible would not have had anyway to know that the people that he once had been close to and work along side of where died. The computer also showed that Syndrome believe that he had terminated him too.
In the second part, Helen is with Edna and she thinks that she knows where Bob (Mr. Incredible) is, but really he has been lying to her and she calls his old office and finds out he was fired and then she has no clue where he is. Edna put homing devices in the new suits she made for the Parr family. When Helen pushes the button on the homing device remote this makes Mr.Incredibles suit go off and that’s when I felt the significance of the scene stopped.
The part of the scene with Helen and Edna shows that Mr. Incredible is being very sneaky within his marriage and Helen isn’t sure what to think because he didn’t her that he lost his job.
This scene presents a lot of shock, misunderstanding, and realization from both ends of the scene. This scene really allows the viewer to wonder what is going to happen next for the Supers and for the Parr’s.
I agree with your conclusion that this scene involves a lot of shock, misunderstanding, and realization from both ends of the scene. It is a turning point in the movie and shifts the momentum for the audience. I would say it adds significantly to the build up of the climax in the second act of the film.
