Let’s start our journey in the most logical location, on the first floor of the library; The first clue instructs you to find the shark, for you don’t have to travel far to find this majestic, plastic, finned mammal. THERE IT IS hanging so casually, up in the air! The clue that comes with finding this magnificent creature leads you to the right of where you stand, to the Pacific Golden Plover egg, nestled in the August J. Schoenebeck bird egg collection, within the Museum of Natural History, find this egg, and refer to where his species originally reside, identify the first letter of the location and take note, for it will come in handy along the line.
Hightail it to the reference room, don’t travel up, don’t travel down, stay on the first floor, and begin your search for the Encyclopedia of Dogs. Search high and low, left and right, and don’t stop until you find the book for it’s an important clue in finding our dear Stevie. Be cautious not to gather your clue from the wrong book… there is more than one Encyclopedia of Dog with similar call numbers.
Since this is no ordinary building of books, we must learn and adapt to the situation at hand; though you might be familiar with the system of Dooeys and Decimals, we must graduate that part of our minds to something quite different, for we are the seekers of information, the doers of good, we must refer to an advanced way of finding this information, utilizing a code so secret and mysterious, your mind must advance to understand it. We must use call numbers, in order to navigate through this Library of Congress, and if you understand, your mind is much more developed than others around you.
If you are having a bit of a struggle finding the K9 encyclopaedia the very nice lady at the reference desk is more than happy to give a hint as to the whereabouts of this important book with the top secret call number, SF 422 F64 1995. After you retrieve the letter V and a handy dandy bookmark with loads of references and information on it, from the lady at that reference desk, your hunt will continue on the second floor seeking out the current issues of the school newspaper.
You will need to say the secret password to the ladies at the Periodicals Desk, for then and only then, will they provide you with the letter E which you will need to become one step closer to finding Stevie. After that, race to the elevator and head up to the third floor and see if Stevie is checking out the CDs that the library has on hand.
The clue located with the CDs will tell you to locate a CD using it’s specific call number. With that hint you will find the Rolling Stones CD and get the letter R as the answer to that particular clue.
The next clue will lead you to the next letter, which in turn will get you closer to solving this mysterious case. On the fourth floor you will look for an autobiography, an autobiography of whom? Stevie’s kidnapper, Henry Chaplin! The call number for this book is PN2287.C5. Look through the autobiography to view a picture of Stevie’s kidnapper and get an insight on what he looks like. This clue will ask you to locate his picture on one of the doors on the floor of this library. Head away from the book shelves and scan the doors for the sketch of Henry. Once you find this sketch, next to the picture, look for the third letter in the fourth word to get your next letter, C.
You still have two more floors with tremendous amounts of resources to go. Head up to the fifth floor now and using the call number QL737.P96 to locate the hostage and the next letter near the books about zoology. You will find the monkey hostage and the letter H and will be even closer to finding the long lost Stevie.
The final clue can be found on the sixth and final floor of the UWSP library. This is the floor that contains U.S. government publications and documents. You must find the poster that describes the SuDocs call numbers. There are two letters on this floor that will help you find Stevie’s. You have to look on the poster and get the two letters that are in the call number for publications by the Smithsonian Institution. The letter you should find are S and I.
Now you have found all the letters necessary to find our beloved mascot. You must unscramble the letters to figure out Stevie’s exact location. When you unscramble the letters you should get ARCHIVES. Now make your way you to the fifth floor and save Stevie!
Love this! Very easy to follow and creative!
